Checklist moving to another municipality

1. Registration with new municipality

Register with the new municipality as soon as possible. This can often be done online or in person at the town hall.

Make sure you bring all the necessary documents, such as proof of identity, rental or purchase contract and notice of move.

2. Report address changes

Pass on your change of address to important authorities such as the Tax and Customs Administration, health insurer, bank(s), insurers, energy suppliers, telephone and internet providers, employer, school, etc.

Don't forget to inform family, friends and acquaintances of your new address.

3. Insurance and Memberships

Update your home contents, car and other insurance policies with your new address.

Notify subscriptions and memberships, such as newspapers, magazines, gyms, clubs, etc., of your change of address.

4. Medical Care

Find a new general practitioner, dentist and other healthcare providers in your new municipality.

Ask your current healthcare providers to transfer your medical data to new healthcare providers if necessary.

5. School and childcare

Inform your children's school or childcare center about the move.

If necessary, register them with new schools or childcare centers in your new municipality.

6. Relocation of utilities

Contact your energy supplier(s), water company and any other utilities to pass on the move.

Make sure the utilities are shut off at your old address and connected at your new address.

7. Forward mail

Consider requesting mail forwarding from PostNL or another postal service.

This ensures that mail sent to your old address will be forwarded to your new address.

8. Municipal facilities

Inquire at the new municipality about local facilities, such as waste collection, parking permits and other municipal regulations.

If necessary, register for new facilities that are available in your new municipality.

9. Changes in Taxes

Inform the Tax and Customs Administration about any changes in taxes or allowances as a result of your move.

Make sure you pass on your change of address to the Tax and Customs Administration.

10. Associations and Social Networks

Inform associations, clubs and social networks you are a member of about your move.

Ask them to update your contact information with your new address.
