Request moving quotes and compare them for free

A reliable quotation is transparent and in writing. You want to know exactly what you are paying and for what. A good moving quote contains at least: the addresses of both locations, the moving date, the number of movers and the type of moving van, a description of the contents to be moved, all costs including VAT, and the payment terms.

Also check which services are included. One quote only includes loading and unloading, while another moving company also includes packing, furniture disassembly, a moving lift and temporary storage. Always compare moving quotes on the basis of equal services, otherwise you are comparing apples and oranges.

Be aware of hidden costs. A quote without an explanation of call-out charges, stair surcharge or surcharge for heavy items can be considerably more expensive afterwards. Certified movers are transparent about all rates and specify every cost item.

You have received three quotes. Nice. But how do you compare them fairly? The lowest price is not automatically the best choice for your move.

First check whether all moving quotes include the same service package. A quote of 800 euros including packing is a different deal than a quote of 600 euros for transport only. Save by comparing smartly, not by automatically choosing the cheapest movers.

Check reviews of moving companies on Google and Trustpilot. Certified movers with good reviews provide more reliable work. Pay attention to what customers say about communication, punctuality and how carefully the movers handled their belongings.

Also consider communication in your choice. A moving company that responds slowly to your quote request will not behave differently after the booking. It says something about how they work.

An extremely low price, far below other quotes, is a warning sign. Some moving companies offer a competitive rate and then charge extra costs for parking, overtime or heavy items from your belongings.

Movers who refuse to put a quote on paper? Don't. A serious moving company always confirms agreements in writing. Also check whether the company has a Chamber of Commerce registration in the Netherlands.

A down payment of more than 50 percent is a risk. There have been cases of moving companies taking the deposit and not showing up. Preferably work with recognized movers who you can compare for free and without obligation via Moving.nl.

What many people don't know: moving quotes are negotiable. There is room to save, especially outside the high season and for larger moves.

The most effective approach is to be honest. Tell the moving company that you received a comparable quote for a lower price and ask if they can match it. Offer flexibility on the moving date - this gives moving companies more planning freedom, which they often reward with a more competitive rate.

Also ask about discounts. Some moving companies offer discounts for moves during the week, in the low season or if you also need storage. It pays to ask.
