Cubic meters decide the truck and the crew. Under 10 m3 a closed van does the job. Between 10 and 22 m3 a mover brings a box truck. Above 40 m3 it becomes two runs or a second truck, and the price climbs fastest there. Give the same number to every company you approach and their quotes become comparable.
Two things add more volume than people expect: boxes and the attic. Walk through the attic, shed and garden in the calculator before you treat your result as final.

- A studio or small apartment usually lands between 15 and 25 m3. A three-bedroom terraced house is more often around 35 to 45 m3. A detached house with an attic and a shed runs past 60 m3. Your own result depends on how many cabinets and boxes you take along, not on the floor area of your home.
- Why do movers ask for cubic meters?
- The volume decides which truck is needed and how many runs it takes, and that is the largest cost in a move. With a volume attached, a moving company can quote without visiting first. Without one, you mostly get non-binding ballpark figures.
- How accurate is this calculation?
- The result is an estimate based on average dimensions per item. Expect a margin of roughly 10 percent. Do not skip the attic, the shed and the garden, because those hold more volume than people expect. During a survey, the mover measures the final volume.
- What does a move cost per m3?
- Moving companies rarely charge a fixed amount per m3. The price depends on volume, distance, the floor you live on, whether a furniture lift is needed and whether you pack yourself. As a guideline, a move within the same town often falls between 400 and 1,200 euros. Comparing quotes is the only way to know what your move costs.
