Arrange international relocation

For countries outside the EU you always need a detailed inventory list. This lists all transported goods with an estimated value. This document is required for customs clearance.

When immigrating to countries such as the US, Canada or Australia, you often need additional forms. Alcohol, tobacco and cars are almost always excluded from the personal property exemption.

You do not officially need customs documents for an EU move, but some countries require a moving declaration.

Please allow two to five business days for clearance at the customs office.

Truck is the standard for destinations within Europe. Lead time two to seven days. Cheapest option.

Sea freight is the best choice for intercontinental moves. You can choose from your own container (FCL) or a shared container (LCL/groupage). FCL is safer, LCL cheaper.

Air freight is fast (three to seven days) but expensive. Suitable for urgent, valuable or small shipments.

Combine transportation methods if that makes sense. Send essentials by plane and have the furniture arrive later by sea.

Standard transport insurance often does not cover enough for international moves. Always choose all-risk insurance based on the actual value, not the weight.

All-risk coverage reimburses damage caused by accidents, fire, theft and water damage. Costs: 1 to 3 percent of the total value of your home contents.

Also check whether your current home contents insurance covers the period during transport. Most Dutch home contents insurance policies expire upon emigration.

Always make a detailed photo inventory before the move starts.
