A clean and tidy workplace - that really works better. In a TU Delft study into labor productivity*, more than half of the people surveyed mentioned a clean and tidy office as one of the most important factors. In short: the cleaner the workplace, the more work someone does. "So cleaning pays off, it's that simple."
Clean and tidy is a broad concept: what exactly you mean by it differs per type of location. A factory hall does not need to be cleaned as neatly as an open-plan office - after all, the work carried out in these two places cannot be compared. The expectations of the employees, that's what it's really all about. Nobody expects you to be able to eat off the floor in a factory hall. But you do want that freshness in the canteen. Whether you work in an office, in a construction site, in a factory hall, at a gas station or anywhere else: people enjoy working more if it is as clean and tidy as they expect.
"Anyone who cuts back on cleaning is actually a thief of their own wallet. It may not be possible to express in hard euros how much cleaning yields, but it is certain that people do not work harder if it is dusty or downright dirty somewhere. And then the customer argument also applies. A not so fresh working environment is not a shining calling card: 'If they treat their own working environment like this...' A negative judgment is quickly made." I started as a self-employed person but now have a company with about 25 mostly specialized cleaners. High-pressure cleaning, demineralized window cleaning, delivery cleaning of new-build homes, car washes, etc. In addition to regular cleaning work in offices, healthcare providers, factories and construction chains, we also know exactly what to do in non-standard situations.
Bouderij Schoonmaak- en Bedrijfsdiensten took over Hauwert Clean in 2021 and Professional Cleaning Services (PCS) in May 2022. Not only do we work with more people, we can also accept more and more different assignments. Moreover, the working area grew. "I personally worked in offices from Heerhugowaard to Amsterdam. Hauwert Clean is mainly active in West Friesland, especially at production locations and gas stations, and PCS often works for construction companies from Alkmaar to Haarlem." With the extra equipment and the extra people, we now take on cleaning assignments in a large part of North Holland. Not an easy task, because there is also a shortage of workers in the cleaning industry. "Just like the catering, construction, education and retail sectors, there is plenty of work and we are constantly looking for extra hands. So far we have been successful - the larger organization provides more space and more strength in that area."
