We are the best at painting. Also glazing. Only... you don't just need professionals, you also need people you can count on. To a recognized company that is very meticulous in everything, treats your belongings with respect and always keeps its agreements. Nice to meet you. Van den Boom Vermeulen. Precisely.
Mike van den Crommenacker is now officially the new owner of the company, which started in Keldonk but is now located at De Amert in Veghel. Although new is a relative term in this case: Mike is the son-in-law of the founder and has been working at the painting company for almost 25 years: "Rien had just started his own business when he already needed staff. I was already dating his daughter, came to work there and never left. Not even with his daughter by the way ;-)"
Changing course Rien's painting company initially grew rapidly and in its heyday employed more than thirty painters. Rien: "We did a lot of project-based new construction at that time. I know that we did a residential tower in Eindhoven that was 110 meters high. A beautiful job. But at one point I also employed carpenters and we ordered wallpaper by the kilometer. That was not the reason why I started my own business. I preferred the small, the personal. And so things changed."
Milestone: merger An important milestone in the history of the company, both business and personal, is the merger with Schildersbedrijf Vermeulen in Veghel. "I learned the trade from Hans Vermeulen. Then it's great that he comes to you. He was in the same vein as us: he mainly worked for private individuals, contractors and small business customers. Good guy. Nice company. It had a good reputation. But without follow-up. We merged in 2004, and from 2007 we have been using the new name: Van den Boom Vermeulen Schilderwerken."
Official transfer And now another milestone, in the year that the company has existed for 25 years: the official transfer of the company from the founder to his successor. It has been celebrated before, but now it is actually official. Will much change? “No,” says Mike. "Rien has been winding down for a few years now. A lot of the management work has been with me for some time. And in any case: as a company we are in good standing with our customers, who reward us on average with a 9. We also have a good team of painters, who understand how it works: that we are guests of our customers. The overall picture is just right. I am not going to change anything about that. That would be a shame."
