Are you moving in 2024? Then our 'Relocation Checklist' is indispensable to ensure that your move and change of address runs smoothly. By reporting your move in time and arranging the practical matters, you prevent stress and ensure that everything is properly arranged at your new address.

Step 1: Notify the municipality and change of address

Always notify the new municipality of your move no later than 5 days after your moving date via a moving form or online on the website of the municipality you are moving to.

Make sure that your new address, your moving date and all your personal data have been correctly passed on to the municipal personal administration (BRP).

Keep the confirmations you receive of your change of address in your own administration.

Step 2: Arrange tax authorities matters

Report your change of address to the Tax Authorities and other important authorities in time.

Moving is a good time to check your benefits. This way you avoid having to pay back. Or that you are getting too little.

Do this approximately 4 weeks before your move or no later than within 5 days after you have moved.

Step 3. Banks and financial institutions

Inform your bank and other financial institutions about your move and change of address

Provide your new address and ensure that your financial mail is delivered to the correct address.

Step 4. Notify insurance companies

Contact your insurance company(s) and inform them of your move in a timely manner.

Also make sure that your home contents, car and other insurance policies are updated to your new address.

Step 5. Move or switch energy supplier

Report your move to your energy supplier(s) for gas, electricity and possibly water.

Make sure that your old home is closed and your new home is connected on the desired move-in date.

Contact your energy and water supplier promptly to cancel and conclude contracts at your old address and connection to your new home.

Step 6. Telephone and internet providers

Contact your telephone and internet providers and inform them of your move.

Schedule the transfer of your telephone and internet connection to your new address.

A move can also be a good time to switch to a better internet or telephone provider.

Step 7. Forward mail with PostNL Moving Service

You can also have your mail forwarded to your new address with PostNL's moving service. This can be done for up to 12 months.

Please inform PostNL of your change of address in a timely manner, preferably 4 weeks before the moving day. It can take up to 4 weeks for everything to be processed.

Make sure your name is clearly on the letterbox and also inform friends and family about your new address.

This ensures that mail sent to your old address will be forwarded to your new address.

Step 8. Healthcare

Inform your doctor, dentist and other healthcare providers about your move.

Register in time with a new GP, dentist and other healthcare providers in your new place of residence. Have medical records sent if necessary.

Ask them to transfer your medical records to new healthcare providers if necessary.

Step 9. Subscriptions and memberships

When moving, plan subscriptions and memberships carefully, such as for the gym, streaming services or magazines.

Report your move and make sure your membership is updated with your new address.

Step 10. Employer and school

Register your children well in advance at a new school or childcare center. Ensure proper transfer of important information.

Update your address with your employer and make sure you are available around the moving period.

Step 11. Don't forget before you move

Don't forget to update your address in your various online accounts, such as online stores and social media.
