What will the internet cost in 2026?

The costs for internet in the Netherlands vary from 28 to 90 euros per month, depending on the type of connection, the speed and whether you include TV and telephony. A basic subscription with internet-only costs 28 to 45 euros per month. An all-in-1 package with TV and calling costs between 50 and 90 euros per month.

Fiber optic, cable or DSL?

There are three types of internet connections available in the Netherlands. Fiber optic offers the highest speeds (up to 8 Gbps) and the most stable connection. Cable internet via the coaxial network offers speeds of up to 1 Gbps and is widely available. DSL over the telephone line is the oldest technology with speeds up to 100 Mbps. Fiber optic is the future-proof choice but is not yet available everywhere.

Compare internet providers

The largest internet providers in the Netherlands are KPN, Ziggo, T-Mobile, Odido and various fiber optic providers. The price varies per provider, speed and contract duration. Always compare based on the total costs over the contract period. Pay attention to welcome promotions, one-off connection costs and price increases after the first year.

All-in-1 packages

An all-in-1 package combines internet, television and telephony in one subscription. This is cheaper per component than individual subscriptions. But if you no longer watch traditional TV and only use streaming services, an internet-only subscription is cheaper. Calling via the landline is being used less and less and is no longer included in the package for most people.

Tips for choosing the Internet

First determine what speed you need based on your usage pattern. Check which types of connections are available at your address. Compare at least three providers on total costs, speed and contract conditions. Read reviews about customer service and network stability. And check whether your current subscription is still running before you switch.

What determines the price?

Connection type

Fiber optic offers the highest speeds (up to 8 Gbps) but is not available everywhere. Cable offers up to 1 Gbps. DSL is the slowest but cheapest.

Speed

Higher speeds cost more. For normal home use, 100-200 Mbps is sufficient. For working from home and streaming we recommend 300 Mbps or more.

Bundling

An all-in-1 package with TV and calling is cheaper per component than separate subscriptions. But if you don't watch TV, internet-only is cheaper.

Contract duration

A 2-year contract is cheaper per month than a 1-year contract. Monthly subscriptions are the most expensive but offer maximum flexibility.

Saving tips

  • Always compare the total contract costs over the entire term, including one-off costs and discount periods.
  • Fiber optic is the best choice for future-proof internet. Check at postal code level whether fiber optic is available in your street.
  • Don't take more speed than you need. For a household with 2-3 devices at the same time, 100 Mbps is more than sufficient.
  • Pay attention to automatic price increases after the first year. Some providers give a significant discount in year 1 that expires afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What does internet cost on average per month?

In 2026, an internet subscription will cost an average of 35 to 55 euros per month for a home connection. Internet-only starts from 28 euros per month. An all-in-1 package with TV and calling costs 50 to 90 euros per month.

Is fiber optic more expensive than cable?

Fiber optic is on average 5 to 15 euros per month more expensive than cable, but offers higher speeds and a more stable connection. For basic speeds the difference is small.

What internet speed do I need?

For e-mail and surfing, 50 Mbps is sufficient. For HD streaming and working from home we recommend 100-200 Mbps. For a large family with many devices or 4K streaming, 300-500 Mbps is ideal.

Can I switch providers?

Yes, you can switch after your contract period ends. Your new provider will usually arrange the switch and cancellation with your current provider. Be aware of any cancellation costs if you switch before the end of your contract.
