Average cost for a floor insulation specialist (average)
Floor insulation is an effective way to limit heat loss through the ground floor. An uninsulated floor is responsible for 5 to 10% of the total heat loss in a home. The costs for floor insulation are on average between 1,200 and 3,500 euros for a standard ground floor. You pay 20 to 55 euros per m2 depending on the method.
The most common method is insulation from the crawl space. PUR foam, EPS plates or mineral wool are applied to the underside of the floor. This is fast and you hardly notice it at home. In homes without a crawl space or in new construction, the insulation is placed at the top, whereby the existing floor is adjusted or raised.
PUR foam is the most popular for crawl space insulation. It is sprayed on site and fits seamlessly. EPS plates are cheaper but must be attached manually. Mineral wool provides good insulation and sound insulation. PIR boards are often used for top insulation due to their high insulation value with minimal thickness.
You can receive compensation for floor insulation through the ISDE subsidy. The condition is that the Rd value is at least 3.5. The subsidy amount depends on the Rd value achieved and the surface area. If you combine floor insulation with other insulation measures, you will receive a higher subsidy amount per measure.
Always have a preliminary inspection carried out before having floor insulation installed. A specialist checks the crawl space for height, moisture and the condition of the floor construction. Request at least three quotes and compare on price, material, Rd value and warranty. Choose a company with KOMO certification and ask for references from previous projects.
| Service | From | To | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crawlspace insulation | €20 | €45 | per m2 |
| Ground floor floor (total) | €1200 | €3500 | total |
| Top insulation | €25 | €55 | per m2 |
| PUR foam (sprayed) | €25 | €45 | per m2 |
| EPS plates | €15 | €30 | per m2 |
| Mineral wool | €18 | €35 | per m2 |
A crawl space of at least 35 cm is required to work in it. In lower crawl spaces, injecting PUR foam is sometimes the only option.
The total costs increase with the surface area, but the price per m2 decreases for larger projects. An average ground floor is 40-60 m2.
In a damp crawl space, a ground foil or drainage must first be installed. This increases the costs by 300 to 800 euros.
Insulation from the crawl space is cheaper and less drastic than insulation at the top, where the floor must be opened.
Floor insulation costs on average 1,200 to 3,500 euros for a ground floor of 40 to 60 m2. Per m2 you pay 20 to 45 euros from the crawl space and 25 to 55 euros at the top.
Crawl space insulation is the most popular because it is quick and minimally invasive. PUR foam is sprayed against the underside of the floor. In homes without a crawl space, insulation at the top is the only option.
With floor insulation you save an average of 150 to 350 euros per year on heating costs. In addition, the floor feels more comfortable and warmer. The payback period is between 5 and 8 years.
If there is water or the crawl space is very damp, a ground foil or drainage must first be installed. This costs 300 to 800 euros extra, but prevents moisture problems after insulation.
