Average cost for a cavity wall insulation specialist (average)
Cavity wall insulation is one of the most cost-effective insulation measures for Dutch homes. Most terraced houses are fully insulated for 600 to 1,200 euros. For a corner house you pay 900 to 1,800 euros and for a detached house 1,500 to 4,000 euros. The price per m2 is between 15 and 35 euros, depending on the material.
With cavity wall insulation, insulation material is blown into the hollow space (cavity) between the inner and outer walls. A specialist drills small holes in the facade, blows in the material and seals the holes again. The entire process is usually completed within a day. The cavity is checked in advance for width, dirt and any moisture problems.
The three most commonly used materials for cavity wall insulation are EPS beads, PUR foam and glass wool. EPS beads are the cheapest (15-25 euros per m2) and have a good insulation value. PUR foam is slightly more expensive (20-35 euros per m2) but insulates better per cm of thickness. Glass wool is durable and provides extra sound insulation. Your insulation company will advise you on which material best suits your home.
With cavity wall insulation you save an average of 250 to 500 euros per year on heating costs. The payback period is therefore only 3 to 5 years, making it one of the fastest-paying insulation measures. In addition, living comfort improves because the walls feel less cold and there is less draught.
You will receive compensation for cavity wall insulation through the ISDE subsidy. The height depends on the Rd value achieved and the insulated surface. Please note: the subsidy often must be applied for before you start the work. Always choose a certified company, because this is a condition for the subsidy.
| Service | From | To | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terraced house | €600 | €1200 | total |
| Corner house | €900 | €1800 | total |
| Detached house | €1500 | €4000 | total |
| Cavity wall insulation per m2 | €15 | €35 | per m2 |
| EPS beads | €15 | €25 | per m2 |
| PUR foam | €20 | €35 | per m2 |
| Glass wool (blowing in) | €15 | €28 | per m2 |
A terraced house has fewer exterior walls than a corner house or detached house. The more exterior wall, the higher the costs.
A wider cavity offers space for more insulation material and a higher Rd value. The minimum cavity width is 4 cm.
EPS beads are the cheapest, PUR foam insulates the best per cm. Glass wool and mineral wool are a good compromise between price and performance.
Facades that are difficult to reach, scaffolding or obstacles such as extensions increase costs.
Cavity wall insulation for a terraced house costs an average of 600 to 1,200 euros. The exact price depends on the facade surface, the material and the cavity width.
EPS beads are the most popular because of their low price and good insulation value. PUR foam offers the highest insulation value per cm. Glass wool is a sustainable option with good sound insulation.
Cavity wall insulation takes half a day to a day for most homes. The material is blown into the facade through small drill holes. The holes are then neatly closed.
Not every home is suitable. The cavity must be at least 4 cm wide, clean and dry. Homes built before 1920 often have no cavity. A preliminary inspection by a specialist is always necessary.
