Janssen Rieten Daken has more than 10 years of experience and is successful throughout the Netherlands. Janssen Rieten Daken is also a certified Novarite decker. We only work with Dutch trained thatchers. A thatched roof is made from annual reeds. Perennial reed is not suitable for this. Over time, the top reed weathers and sometimes algae grows on it. If these algae are not controlled, moss will also grow on them, which must be removed manually. After this, the reed must be tapped again. If the moss is not removed, it will have a strongly negative impact on the lifespan of the roof. To prevent birds from pulling away the reed along the ridge, a strip of fine-mesh copper mesh (or galvanized or plasticized chick mesh) is sometimes stretched over the reed.
